AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team's upset effort was stalled by #13 UMHB, 81-77.
Jordan Bravo (14 points) and
Chelsea Cogborn (10 points) both reached double-figure scoring for the Tornados inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Crusaders raced out to a 16-8 lead. A pull up jumper by
Madi Maxwell with 2:26 remaining would spark a comeback a flurry to bring CTX back with in two points.Â
With both teams jockeying for position, UMHB would push their lead back up to eight at 24-16 before
Havyn Perez found Bravo on back-to-back corner threes to cut the lead down to two points. The Tornados their counterpunch whenÂ
Kennedy Donovan found Cogborn on a fastbreak outlet pass to cap a 15-6 flurry and give Concordia a 31-30 lead.
There would be another four lead changes in the final two minutes of the first half, and CTX took a 35-34 advantage into the break following a beautiful find from
Havyn Perez to
Madi Maxwell in the paint.
The Tornados were down 45-41, before an 8-0 burst by the Crusaders pushed their lead to double digits. An and-one turnaround jumper by
Aniya Hicks would cut the deficit back to nine points, but UMHB would carry a 59-46 advantage into the final frame. Concordia would fight valiantly, but the Crusaders held on for the win.
Concordia Texas will next travel to Marshall, Texas to take on East Texas Baptist in their first conference road contest of the season. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
