Women's Basketball Comeback Bid Stalled at ETBU

Chelsea Cogborn tallied 10 points, three steals and three blocks.

BOX SCORE MARSHALL, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team came back from a double-digit deficit but ultimately fell short in a 51-45 decision against East Texas Baptist. Chelsea Cogburn stuffed the stat sheet as she tallied 10 points, three steals and three blocks, while Havyn Perez poured in 10 points, six rebounds and three steals inside Ornelas Gym on Thursday.

The Tornados started off the game excellent defensively as they only allowed one field goal in the first six minutes of the game. They took an early lead when Madi Maxwell found an open Bailey Andrews for three for the first score of the game.

Both teams would remain stingy throughout the first quarter, and the Tigers would take a 10-9 lead into the second. ETBU scored the first six points of the second quarter, but Concordia would comeback to make it a 17-15 score with 4:35 left in the half. ETBU would respond to push their lead up to 10 points right before half, but Mikayla Johnson would fire a three to make it 27-20 heading into the intermission.

Nursing a lead, the Tigers' advantage would reach as much as 11 points in the second half. The Tornados would come storming back to tie the game at 41-41 following a jumper by Johnson with 3:06 left in the game. ETBU would respond with an 8-0 burst to regain control and hold on for the win.

Concordia Texas will next travel to Longview, Texas to take on LeTourneau in ASC play. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
