BOX SCORE ARLINGTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team opened the 2022 season with a match against Texas Wesleyan, falling 5-2 on Saturday.
After having their season opener postponed due to weather, the Tornados instead opened their season in Arlington, Texas, taking on NAIA opponent Texas Wesleyan.
In doubles play, the Tornados picked up one win despite taking the other two matches to tiebreakers.
At line one,
Joshua Bode and
Adrian Munguia battled but ultimately fell, losing a 7-4 tiebreaker.
Esteban Arredondo and
Adrian Munguia teamed up at line two for the first Tornados' win of the day, taking down TWU's Gasser and Testaud 6-3.
Jorge Garcia and
Nico De La Pena forced a tiebreaker at line three, but the duo came away empty handed after falling 7-5.
The Tornados'
Joshua Bode and Arredondo picked up a pair of wins in singles play, adding two match wins to the CTX total on the day.
Bode picked up a singles win at line one, taking down Olemdo in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 11-9.
Mungia represented the Tornados at line two, winning the first set 6-0 but falling 6-4, 10-6 in the following sets.
Arredondo's second win of the day came in singles play at line three, beating Merino in straight sets by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
Evan Pena Jr. fell 6-2, 6-3 at line four, and at line five, Garcia dropped the first set 6-2 and forced a tiebreaker in the second, ultimately falling 7-6.
Andres Padilla wrapped things up at line six, taking the match to a third set but dropping it 10-6.
The Tornados will look to bounce back with a quick turnaround, traveling to Sherman, Texas to take on Austin College on Sunday at 10 a.m.
