Tornados dominant Texas Lutheran, win second straight match

BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team did not drop a single set and recorded their second straight 9-0 shutout, taking down Texas Lutheran in their home opener on Friday at Austin Tennis Academy.

The Tornados were coming off a 1-1 road trip to open the season, ending with a win over Austin College in Sherman, Texas.

Concordia Texas did not break a sweat in the doubles matches, sweeping all three.

Joshua Bode and Adrian Munguia teamed up at line one for an 8-1 victory over the Bulldogs' Simon Carandang and Nico Rios. Esteban Arredondo and Andres Padilla took care of business at line two, picking up an 8-1 win. Nico De La Pena and Evan Pena Jr. wrapped up doubles play with an 8-2 defeat at line three.

In singles, the Tornados made quick work of TLU as Bode, Arredondo and Pena Jr. walked away with wins at line one, two and three, respectively.

Jorge Garcia secured his lone victory of the day at line four, defeating Rios by retirement in the second set. De La Pena grabbed a straight-set win at line five 6-2, 6-0, while Jesse West closed out the Tornados' team win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at line six.

Concordia Texas will return to the courts on Saturday, hosting Schreiner in a non-conference matchup at 2 p.m. at River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas.
