Tornados unable to complete comeback in series finale

BOX SCORE MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team closed out the three-game series with East Texas Baptist, mounting a comeback in the fifth inning but ultimately falling 10-4 in the series finale Friday.
 
The Tornados scored four runs in the fifth and sixth inning, cutting the lead to 9-4, but were unable to complete the comeback as the Tigers outlasted them in the end.
 
Amaya Guerrero, Kylie Pavlicek, and Kylie Woods each picked up two hits on the day, and Ellie Conglaton drove in two runs.
 
In the first inning, the Tigers plated two runs on four hits to take an early lead.
 
East Texas Baptist added on in the second inning, pushing six runs across to extend the lead to 8-0.
 
In the third inning, ETBU added another run to the total, pushing the advantage to 9-0.
 
The Tornados' comeback effort began in the fifth inning, bringing three runs home on four hits. Pavlicek, Nadia Lopez, and Woods singled, loading the bases, and Zaleigh Perez brought home Pavlicek with an RBI groundout. Next, Congalton belted a double to right center, driving in two runs and cutting the lead 9-3.
 
In the sixth inning, the Tornados added another run when Maddy Ellison came around to score on an error after a single from Pavlicek. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Tornados trailed 9-4.
 
The Tigers added another run in the seventh and the Tornados were unable to complete the comeback despite a pair of hits from Woods and Guerrero in the seventh. Ultimately, CTX fell 10-4.
 
Concordia Texas will continue their stint on the road on April 22, opening a three-game series at Hardin-Simmons with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
