KERRVILLE, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's soccer team did an excellent job turning defense into offense in a 2-1 win over Schreiner University.
Leo Lopez and
Samuel Narvaez notched their first goals of the season to help the Tornados secure their fourth win in a row at Mountaineer Soccer Field on Sunday.
CTX kept the pressure on Schreiner all game as the Tornados outshot the Mountaineers 16-9, and junior goalkeeper
Joshua Redding only faced two shots on the day.
Both teams remained scoreless for the majority of the first half until Lopez stole the ball from a defender and fired the ball into the net right before haftime in the 44th minute.
Keeping the pressure on after the intermission, sophomore midfielder
Melvin Molina initiated a counter attack with a steal deep into Schreiner territory. He would then get his second assist of the season with a pass to Narvaez for the score.
Nursing a 2-0 lead, the Tornados were two minutes away from their second clean sheet in as many matches, but the Mountaineers capitalized on a handball in the penalty box. This would be the final tally of the match as CTX would claim the 2-1 victory.
Concordia Texas will now have well-deserved rest before their next match up in 12 days when they take on Southwestern at 7 p.m.
