AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team outlasted the UT-Dallas Comets in a five-set thriller to claim their fifth victory in a row in their ASC conference home opener.
Kinsy Haschke tallied a season-high 20 kills to go along with 14 digs. On her birthday, setter
Alyssa Legette marked her fourth double-double (20 assists, 17 digs) on her birthday inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Friday.
Sarah Ghormley (14 digs, 11 kills) and
Selena Cooper (15 assists, 12 digs) also marked double-doubles in the match.
Jennika Willis (12) and
Kaitlyn Ruiz (12) also reached double figures in digs, while
Camryn Parker set a new career-high with five total blocks.
The Comets jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in the first set. CTX closed the deficit to 21-18, but UT-Dallas closed out the first set with a 25-19 win. There was a total of 16 ties and eight lead changes in a second set that saw both teams locked at 20-20. The Tornados capitalized on clean play as four of their last five points came off errors from the Comets to tie the match at 1-1.
UT-Dallas raced to an 19-12 advantage en route to a 25-19 win in the third set to claim their second win of the match. Nursing a 20-18 lead in the fourth set, Ruiz connected with Haschke for a kill to spark a 4-0 flurry to help CTX win 25-21 and force a decisive fifth and final set.
UT-Dallas scored the first point of the final set, but Concordia took control with a convincing 7-1 burst. The Comets closed the gap to 12-10, but the Tornados would ultimately hold on with a kill by Ghormley to secure the victory.
Concordia Texas will return right back to action as they face LeTourneau on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
