Late Goal Surges Women's Soccer Past ETBU

Erin Folkner found Kallie Krenz in the 85th minute.

MARSHALL, Texas - Concordia Texas sophomore Erin Folkner found junior Kallie Krenz in the 85th minute for the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 triumph over ETBU. In the ASC season opener, sophomore goalkeeper Lora Tresco (eight saves) and the CTX defense was magnificent at Cornish Field on Thursday.

Both teams combined for 37 shot attempts and five corner kicks.

In what was arguably the Tornados' best opportunities to score in the first half, Patricia Heckendorn launched a rocket from outside of the upper right edge of the box that was just saved by the goalkeeper's fingertips in the 25th minute.

Later in the 40th minute, Kaley Kaspar fired a shot inside the box toward the bottom right corner, but the Tigers' keeper made another save just inches away from goal.

As action progressed in the second half, both teams had multiple chances to score to no avail. With the match seemingly headed to a full-time finish, Heckendorn led Folkner with a pass. Folkner proceeded to cross the ball to a streaking Krenz for the go-ahead score with five minutes remaining. The Tornados would hold on for the victory in the ASC opener.

CTX will next travel to Longview, Texas on Saturday to take on LeTourneau at 1 p.m.
