AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team earned a 79-56 conference victory over McMurry University. Five different Tornados scored in double digits as Chelsea Cogborn tallied a career-high six blocks inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Thursday.
Concordia dominated in many facets of the game as they outscored McMurry 40-24 points in the paint and 24-9 points in the paint. Their bench outplayed the Warhawks' bench 30-10, while Concordia won the fast break battle 20-10.
Following a slow start in the first, the Tornados blitzed the Warhawks as they won the second quarter by a score of 23-8.
McMurry raced out to a 11-2 lead. The Tornados took the lead at 23-21 and kept surging with a 19-2 run in the second quarter. CTX would use the momentum to carry a 35-27 advantage into the half.
Early in the third quarter, Concordia extended their lead to double digits when Bailey Andrews found Jordan Bravo for a wing-three. The Warhawks made it a nine-point game at the 5:42 mark in the third quarter, but CTX responded with 12-6 burst to take a 57-42 lead into the final frame.
Concordia held control throughout the rest of the game with great press-breaking offense as their lead extended to as much as 25 points en route to the victory.
Concordia Texas will next host Hardin-Simmons this Saturday, Jan. 14th. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
