ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's soccer team overcame a 2-0 deficit and defeated UT Dallas by a score of 3-2. Jesse Garfias scored twice and goalkeeper Brock Hendrickson made a game saving penalty kick snag at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on Thursday.
It was a physical battle on the pitch as there were a total of 12 yellow cards and two reds.
The Comets converted on two early counterattacks to break ahead. CTX cut the deficit in half in the 28th with a beautiful throw in into a header from Steven Dolan to Cameron Burleson.
Coming out the half, Concordia found the equalizer in the 53rd via a 1-2-3 from Dolan and Marco Rodriguez Jr. to Gardias for the score. The Tornados almost found the go-ahead goal when a through ball into a Gustavo Hernandez back tap just missed the left goal post in the 67th.
Following a second red card on UT Dallas, Concordia held possession for the majority of final 20 minutes of the match. CTX finally broke through when an Antonio Rios slip pass found Garfias for the go-ahead goal. The Comets had one final chance to score with a penalty kick in the 88th, but Hendrickson made the gutsy save to secure the victory.
Concordia Texas will now host the University of the Ozarks for Senior Day in the regular season home finale on Saturday, October 14th at 3 p.m.
