GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team was bested in a 60-56 decision at Southwestern. Senior guard Zakari Perry posted career highs of 16 points and four steals inside the Robertson Center on Wednesday.
A 9-3 run midway through the first quarter gave the Pirates an early 16-11 advantage. The Tornados inched their way back into the game and tied it up at 16-16 with a pair of free throws from Hayla Flowers with three seconds left.Â
Neither team gained much of an edge in the second frame with the largest lead being only five points. In the waning seconds of the first half, Jordan Bravo swatted a layup attempt and Bailey Andrews converted a pull up jumper to give CTX a 27-25 lead.
The Tornados blitzed their opponents with a 16-1 burst in the first six minutes of the third. Their lead swelled to as much as 45-28 following a steal and layup by Chelsea Cogborn, and Concordia took an 11-point lead into the final quarter.
The Pirates would fight their way back into the game and ultimately claim a 57-54 lead with 1:26 remaining. They would not relinquish the lead and hold on the victory thanks to a 23-8 fourth quarter.
Concordia Texas will now enjoy Thanksgiving before returning to action next Friday, Nov. 24th against Pacific Lutheran at 1pm.
