AUSTIN,Texas - The Concordia women's basketball team was upended in a 75-67 contest against Pacific Lutheran University. Senior Kallie Krenz posted career-highs of 16 points and five assists, while Jordan Bravo and Abby Ordonez added ten points each inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Good Friday.
Zakari Perry drove hard in the paint for the lay up and foul to put ctx first on the board. With just over a minute remaining in the first quarter, Krenz drilled a three to give CTX their largest lead of the game at 16-9. The Lutes would close out the rest of the quarter strong to close the deficit to 17-16 entering the second frame.
The Lutes remained strong offensively to take their biggest lead of the first half at 30-24, but Concordia answered with a Chelsea Cogborn layup and a wing three by Mikayla Johnson (nine points, 3-6 3PM)Â to make it a one-point game. Both teams traded a bucket at the end of the half, which included a buzzer beating jumper by Ordonez for a 32-31 game.
Pacific Lutheran led 41-40 at the six-minute mark before pushing their lead to 53-43 over the next four minutes. Mackenzie Berger would stop the bleeding with a corner three-pointer for a 53-46 score heading into the fourth.
Another three-point bomb by Berger closed the gap to 55-51 at the 9:38 mark, but the Lutes responded with a 9-1 run to take a 64-52 lead with just under five minutes left in the game. The Tornados showed grit in a comeback where they cut the deficit down to 70-65 late in the game, but PLU would hold on for the victory.
Concordia Texas will be right back at home to host Pacific University tomorrow, November 25th at 1 PM.
