SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Concordia Texas men's senior guard
Luis Gonzalez scored his 1,000th career point in a 91-84 marathon at Trinity University. Junior guard
Donovan Stafford led all scorers with 24 points inside Calgaard Gym on Saturday.
Midway through the first half, a 12-2 run by the Tigers gave them their largest lead of the first half at 20-10. The Tornados would come storming back and take the lead at 32-30 following a layup by Stafford with 3:28 remaining in the half. Both teams would trade buckets for the final three minutes, but Trinity ended the first with a 6-0 run to take a 46-42 lead into the break.
Trinity came out on fire to expand their lead to 57-46, but an 18-6 rally gave CTX the edge at 64-63 with just under 12 minutes left in the game. Concordia then continued their offensive explosion with an 8-0 run capped off by back-to-back threes by Gonzalez for a 74-67 score at the under eight-minute media timeout.
Trailing 78-76, Trinity reclaimed the advantage with a 12-2 flurry for an 88-80 lead with 1:21 left. This would ultimately be enough to hold off Concordia in the matchup.
Concordia Texas will be right back in action tomorrow at 1pm where they will take on Colorado College in San Antonio.
