AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell in a defensive slugfest against LeTourneau University, 51-44. Senior guard
Bailey Andrews led all scorers with 12 points off the bench inside the Concordia Fieldhouse.
The score was tied 6-6 through the first seven minutes of the game, before
Olivia Dummer drilled a three to give Concordia the advantage after one. LeTourneau connected on two straight threes to open the second quarter, but
Mikayla Johnson knocked down back-to-back threes to reclaim the lead for CTX.
Both teams would jockey for position in the waning minutes of the first, and the Tornados would take a 20-17 lead in the break following a steal and dish from Andrews to
Daysha Tijerina with 39 seconds left. The third quarter was much of the same as the back-and-forth affair would result in the Yellowjackets carrying a 33-32 lead into the fourth.
In search of a comeback, the Tornaods knotted the game up at 40-all when
Kallie Krenz fed
Hayla Flowers for a banked-in three with 3:22 remaining. LETU answered once again and would have a 47-44 lead with just under 35 seconds left. The Tornados then turned the ball over on the inbounds as the Yellowjackets held on for the victory.
Concordia Texas will now have a week off before traveling to Brownwood, Texas to take on Howard Payne next Saturday, December 16th at 1pm.
