Baseball Walks Off Series Finale in 10 Innings over Pomona-Pitzer

The Tornados split a doubleheader with the Sagehens on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team walked off the series finale in 10 innings with a 13-12 victory over Pomona-Pitzer. The Tornados split the doubleheader as the Sagehens won the first game 3-1.

GAME ONE: L, 3-1 (Seven Innings)
First baseman Chris Morrow began the game with a defensive gem with a diving stop for the first out. After putting two men on with no outs in the top of the second, starting pitcher Dakota Palmer recovered valiantly and retired the next three batters.

Pomona-Pitzer struck first with a RBI-single in the top of the third. The Tornados responded and tied the game when Shawn Huber connected on a RBI-single to centerfield to bring Matthew Armes home on a close play at the plate.

Palmer once again escaped a jam with a two-out, bases-loaded groundout to keep the score tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Sagehens posted two runs in the fifth frame with a RBI-double down the left field line.

In the final inning with only one out, CTX got two runners on base with the go ahead run at the plate. The Sagehens were able to record the final two outs and escape with the victory.

GAME TWO: W, 13-12 (10 Innings)

The Sagehens made it 3-1 in the top of the fourth. With a runner in scoring position, CTX recorded the final out of the inning with a beautiful 9-3-2 throw out at home. Concordia cut the deficit to 3-2 after Kalen Clark belted a homer over the chained-linked fence in left field. The Tornados proceeded to take their first lead of the series in the fifth inning at 4-3 thanks to back-to-back RBI-singles by Swift and Robert Villa to score EJ Sanchez and Zach Seigrist. Pomona-Pitzer counterpunched with five runs in the sixth inning for an 8-4 advantage.

The Sagehens threatened to add more runs with the bases loaded and only one out in the eighth, but the Tornados turned in a beautiful 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. In search of a comeback, Brandon Goynes, Mason Vasquez, Luke Yates and Huber all scored to knot the game up at 8-all.

The Sagehens racked up four more runs in the top of the fourth, but Concordia matched them in the bottom of the ninth; highlighted by a three-RBI double to left center by Jess Lollar. In extra innings, Concordia's defense shut down Pomona-Pitzer in the 10th.
