ABILENE, Texas - Concordia Texas women's basketball was vested in the regular season finale by a score of 74-70 against McMurry University. Senior guard Madi Maxwell led all scorers with 17 points inside the Kimbrell Arena on Saturday.
The Tornaods took an early 21-14 advantage thanks to a 7-0 run capped off by a steal and layup by Kennedy Donovan. Their lead grew to as much as nine points in the first half following a three-pointer from Maxwell, and Concordia took a 39-33 lead into the break.Â
The Warhawks chipped away at their deficit, and ultimately took a 53-52 lead with just under a minute left in the third. Immediately on the next play, Allese Crutcher found Bailey Andrews for a three to give CTX back the lead at 55-53 heading into the final quarter.Â
McMurry opened up the final frame on a 16-5 run in the first five minutes. A 10-3 burst by the Tornados cut the deficit to 72-70 with 36 seconds remaining. Concordia stole the ball on the following Warhawks' possession but were unable to capitalize and gave the ball back to McMurry. The Warhawks knocked down a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach and escape with the victory.
Concordia Texas will now shift their focus to the ASC playoffs and head to Belton, Texas to take on UMHB in the quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.Â
