AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team swept a doubleheader against Williamette University. Caitlyn Rangel went the distance with six strikeouts on 139 pitches in game one, while the Tornados scored nine runs on only six hits in game two to highlight the day inside the Tornado Softball Field.
GAME ONE: W, 7-2
The first two Tornados batters were walked, and lead off hitter Mindy Matthews scored to give CTX a 1-0 lead heading into the second inning. In the top of the second, the Bearcats loaded the bases with only one out, but Concordia held firm and gave up no runs.
Concordia posted another run in the bottom of the second when Kylie Woods put the ball in play, and Megan Hooper scored from second base thanks to an error by the Williamette. The Tornados tacked on two more runs as Cristina Ayala and Emily Schmuck crossed the plate thanks to RBIs by Ellie Congalton and Kylie Pavilcek.
CTX threatened to put up even more runs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bearcats escaped without rendering anymore damage. The Tornados then upped their lead to 6-0 when Zaleigh Perez connected on a two-RBI double down the left field line.
A two-RBI shot with the bases loaded cut the Tornados' lead to 6-2 in the sixth inning, but CTX would answer with savvy base running to take a 7-2 advantage and the final score of game one.

GAME TWO: W, 9-3
Williamette struck early with a RBI-double in the first. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and only one out, Chaynau Johnson and CTX defense held firm to keep the game at 1-0. The Tornados answered immediately with four runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a RBI triple by Kylie Pavlicek on her birthday.
The Bearcats cut the Tornados' lead in half in the top of the second, but Concordia tacked on another three runs on just one hit.
After scoreless innings in the third and fourth, Williamette posted one run but left a runner in scoring position following a double play, web gem by Kylie Woods. The Tornados pushed their lead back up to 8-3 following two stolen bases and a score off a wild pitch by Megan Hooper. Nursing their lead, Concordia added the final run of the night with Emily Schmuck RBI-single to assist Kylie Denaro around the bases.
