BROWNWOOD, Texas - A quartet of Tornados reached double figure scoring as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team took down Howard Payne, 91-75. Seniors Chelsea Cogborn (seven rebounds) and Havyn Perez (nine rebounds, 7 assists) tallied game-highs of 17 points each inside the Brownwood Coliseum on Monday.
With the score tied 2-2 early, CTX gained a double-digit lead with a 19-8 run. They then closed out the quarter with an 8-2 burst to take a 17-point lead into the second quarter. The Tornados kept up the pressure as they only allowed one field goal in the first five minutes of the frame. A three by Mackenzie Berger capped off the dominant half as Concordia led 49-21 at the break.
A layup by Cogborn gave the Tornados their largest lead of the game at 62-26 (36 points) with 6:38 remaining in the game. The Yellowjackets made a run, but Bailey Andrews would find Perez for a layup to push the advantage back up to 20 points. CTX would not allow the game to get back within single digits as they cruised to the conference victory.
Concordia will now return back to Austin for the final home stand of the season where they will host the University of the Ozarks this Thursday, Feb. 12th at 5:30 p.m.
