AUSTIN, Texas - Concordia Texas men's basketball freshman guard
Jaylon Johnson posted his first career double-double and added a game-high four steals to jolt the Tornados past the University of the Ozarks 96-84.
Adolfo Martinez poured in 22 points (6-9 3FG), while senior
Antoine Henderson added 16 points and four boards inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Thursday.
With the score tied 10-10 early in the first half, Concordia surged ahead with a beautiful steal and spinning layup by
Antwan Stephens capping off a 9-0 run. The Eagles responded with a 12-0 burst to claim a three-point advantage with just over eight minutes remaining in the half.
Tariq Muhammad would find Johnson in the paint to stop the bleeding and initiate a 21-3 flurry of their own as CTX took a 51-38 lead into the break.
The Ozarks would not go away easily as they scored the first 10 points of the second half. With just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, Johnson dished the ball to
Dylen Scales on the wing to put the Tornados back up double digits at 71-59. This would be the last time the game was within single digits for the Ozarks as a jumper by Muhammad with 3:32 remaining pushed CTX's lead to a game-high 21 points en route to the victory.
Concordia Texas will next host UT-Dallas this Saturday, Feb. 11th for Senior Day. The ceremony will begin before tip off approximately at 3 p.m.
