LONGVIEW, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team earned an impressive 3-2 victory in the series opener at LeTourneau University. Caitlyn Rangel posted a career-high seven strikeouts at LeTourneau Softball Field on Friday.
The Tornados reached the scoreboard first in the third when a RBI-single through the right side by Emily Schmuck scored Mindy Matthews. The Yellowjackets answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth with two unearned runs.
In the fifth frame, CTX tied the game when Megan Hooper singled to the short stop to score Matthews. Later in the inning, a ground-out by Schmuck with result in the go-ahead run when Grace Coleman raced home. Finishing the game strong, Krista Burg shut down LETU with only one hit allowed in the final two innings to preserve the save and a victory for Concordia.
Concordia Texas will now conclude the series with a doubleheader against LeTourneau tomorrow. First pitch is set for noon.
