MARSHALL, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team earned their second ranked victory in a doubleheader split against the 17th-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University. The Tornados dropped game one 4-2, and sprinted to a 10-5 game two victory at Taylor Field on Saturday.

GAME ONE: L, 3-2

The Tornados made it a 1-0 game in the top of the first with an Emma Chavez RBI-single to score Mindy Matthews. Eastern Connecticut State took a 3-1 lead following a pair of runs in the second inning and another in the third. 

CTX cut into the deficit in the fourth frame when Kylie Denaro raced home following a base hit by Zaleigh Perez. After this run, but teams' defenses settled in as there were only two more hits in the final 3.0 innings.

GAME TWO: W, 10-5

CTX jumped out to a five run lead in the first 2.5 innings, highlighted with a three-RBI triple to left field by Matthews. The Warriors made it a 5-1 game in the bottom of the third, but Matthews rung in another RBI to bring home Myranda Bill. Cristina Ayala made it 7-1 later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to round Matthews around the bases. 

Eastern Connecticut State chipped away at the Tornados' lead to make it a 7-5 game going into the sixth. Ayala gave CTX separation with an infield RBI to score Denaro. Later in the frame, Bill and Matthews scored again following fielder's choices to give Concordia a 10-5 victory.

Concordia Texas will now head for Myrtle Beach for Spring Break where they will compete in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. They will first take on Jefferson University this Tuesday, March 14th at 9 a.m.
