LITTLE RIVER, South Carolina - The Concordia Texas softball team opened up the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a pair of wins over Jefferson University and Suffolk University. The Tornados posted their first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over Jefferson, and they bested Suffolk by a score of 6-2.
GAME ONE VS. JEFFERSON: W, 4-0
Meghan Gattis was exceptional, only allowing three hits and no walks in the complete game shutout. The Tornados went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first when
Mindy Matthews raced home on an error. With both teams' bats remaining relatively quiet through the next three innings,
Cristina Ayala found a hole through the right side to bring Matthews home for her second run of the game.
In the next inning,
Ellie Congalton smacked the ball into centerfield for a RBI-Double to score
Emily Schmuck. Later in the frame,
Kylie Woods put the ball in play that resulted in an error to assist Congalton around the bases for the final run of the game.Â

Kaelyn Cash double in the bottom of the second got things started for CTX. In the next at-bat,
Grace Coleman laced a RBI-triple to right center for a 1-0 lead.
Kylie Denaro would then step up to lay down a sac-bunt to score Coleman. Later in the inning, Concordia went up 3-0 when
Myranda Bill singled and stole three bases.Â
Suffolk cut the lead down to 3-1 in the top of the fourth, but the Tornados answered when Bill cranked a RBI-double to right center and then converted a double steal with Matthews to go up 6-1. The Rams scored one run in the final inning, but CTX held firm for the victory.
