BOX SCORE 2 AUSTIN, Texas- The Concordia Texas men's and women's tennis teams back at home surmounted University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a stellar performance by a score of 6-3 for the women and 7-2 for the men. With the victories, both teams clinched the two seed for the upcoming ASC Championship Tournaments. 11 seniors were honored for Senior Day at River Place Country Club on Saturday.
In the women's bout, Isabella Wiik and Kaitlin Stevens secured the lead for CTX in a close battle of the first match of doubles, 8-7. In the second match, Kayla Pena and Isabella Cepeda triumphed the UMHB duo, 8-2. Rounding out doubles was Claire Austin and Trinity Klamecki who were narrowly bested in a 8-7 decision to bring the overall lead to 2-1.
Pena (6-3, 6-7, 7-6) and Wiik (6-2, 6-2) at line one and two kicked things off in the single matches for the Tornados prevailing over UMHB'S Kittredge and Burns. At line three, Cepeda toppled the rival opponent (6-2 , 6-2) to extend the Tornados' lead to 5-1. To close the day for CTX, Stevens punctuated the victory in a dominating performance (6-1, 6-1) to put Concordia on top, 6-3.
Men's play started with a sweep in double matches as Joshua Bode and Adrian Munguia secured the first victory, 8-4. CTX duo pair Joeri Bregman and Esteban Arredondo defeated their rival 8-4, while Andres Padilla and Daniel Beckles outlasted the UMHB pair 8-6.
In singles, Bode remained unbeaten for the day by outshining his opponent 6-2, 6-4 to extend CTX's lead 4-0. At line two, Munguia defeated UMHB Cusano with an 6-4, 6-3 victory. To put the single matches of the day at a end, Beckles and Arredondo both posted a three set triumph to defeat UMHB 7-2.
With the regular season all wrapped up the Tornados will now focus on bringing home the championship in the American Southwest Conference tournament, beginning April 20. Concordia Texas will face off against the University of the Ozarks in Richardson, Texas at approximately 2 p.m.
