ABILENE, Texas- The Concordia Texas softball team was bested in a doubleheader, 2-0 and 5-1, at McMurry University. Caitlyn Rangel was strong inside the circle in game one for the Tornados, while junior outfielder Ellie Congalton powered her first homer of the season in game two at Edwards Field on Friday.
GAME ONE: L, 0-2
The Tornados recorded five hits, but were unable to bring home a run ultimately falling 0-2 in game one of the series.
In the circle for CTX, Caitlyn Rangel was spectacular as she threw for 93 pitches while securing five strikeouts on only three hits allowed.
CTX tallied three hits to load the bases in the top of the fourth inning, but we're unable to capitalize. The Warhawks would pin two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame, and that would prove to be enough as they held on for the 2-0 victory.
GAME TWO: L, 1-5
In game two, McMurry got on the scoreboard early with one run in the first inning. The tornadoes then responded in the second ending when Ellie Congalton blasted her solo-run homer.Â
With no action offensively for both sides through the next two innings, McMurry took the lead in the fifth inning by posting the final four runs of the evening.
The Tornados will now conclude the series with McMurry University on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon.
