LONGVIEW, Texas- The Concordia Texas volleyball team battled, but were upended 3-1 against LeTourneau University in a tightly contested matchup inside Solheim Arena on Saturday. Savannah Kari (18 kills, 12 digs) and Rayna Pack (11 kills, 10 digs) both posted double-doubles, while Kaitlyn Ruiz dialed in 19 assist for a season-high.
In set one, a kill by Pack sparked a 11-7 burst for the Tornados to put them in the lead 11-10. Concordia continued to stay strong offensively after a powerful kill by Kari sparked a burst to extend the lead, 19-14. CTX would then finish the match 25-20 to claim the first set.
Both teams traded points back-to-back in the beginning of set two, until the yellowjackets sparked a run. Concordia was able to cut into the deficit with back-to-back kills by Pack and Ruiz but fell in set two, 25-16.
Set three started off strongly for the Tornados as they jumped in front of the yellowjackets 5-1. This would be the final lead of the set for CTX with the yellowjackets claiming the set, 25-16.
Both teams went back-and-forth in an intense game three, but LeTourneau would escape 25-21 to pull out win.
The Tornados will travel back to Austin to host their first home game of the season in a conference matchup against McMurry University on Sep 22nd at 6 pm inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
