AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team outlasted the McMurry University War Hawks in a five-set thriller. Junior setter
Kaitlyn Ruiz led the way with a career-high 31 assists to go along with 12 digs inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Friday night.
Savannah Kari (17 digs, 12 kills) and
Rayna Pack (20 digs, 12 kills) were also impressive in the outing.
The War Hawks claimed the first set after surging ahead with an 8-3 run. With the score tied 10-10 in the second frame, the Tornados raced ahead with a 7-3 burst capped with a kill by
Ana Muldez. They would ultimately tie the match up with 25-21 win.
Game three featured another close set with the score knotted up at 18-all late. Concordia would then blitz McMurry and take a 2-1 series lead with a run and kill by
Camryn Parker. CTX led 24-21 in set four before the War Hawks clawed back and scored the last five points to send the match into the final set. Tied 5-5, a kill by Parker sparked a 5-0 run that gave the Tornados the separation for the 15-10 triumph.
Concordia Texas will now turn right back around to take on Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, September 23rd at 1 p.m.
