BELTON, Texas - The Concordia University Texas volleyball team claimed the first set but fell 3-1 to Concordia College (Minn.) in the finale of the UMHB Invitational. Junior Kaitlyn Ruiz posted her second double-double (16 assists, 12 digs) off the seasoninside the Mayborn Campus Center on Saturday.
The score was knotted at 9-9 early in the first set before Selena Cooper assisted Nicole Deering for a kill that initiated a 5-0 run for the Tornados. CTX took control with an ace by Presley Bunting pushing the lead to 20-13 before winning game one 25-21.
Ruiz served an ace to tie the game at 11-all midway through the second set, but the Cobbers would tie the series up by finishing the second frame on a 14-3 burst.
Concordia College jumped out to a 13-4 advantage took game three 25-16. The Cobbers then expanded on a slim 11-8 lead in the fourth set with a 5-0 run before a kill by Olivia Robinson stopped the damage. The Cobbers would later claim set four 25-17 to win the match.
The Tornados will now shift their focus to the Southwestern Fall Invitational where they will first take on the host, Southwestern, next Thursday at 6pm.
