ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's soccer team exploded for a season-high six goals and overpowered LeTourneau University by a score of 6-1 in the conference opener. Freshman midfielder Jesse Garfias scored two goals inside the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on Thursday.
Paul Claffey & Marco Rodriguez Jr. also shined with a goal and an assist apiece, while the Tornados out shot the Yellowjackets 35-6 (25-5 shots on goal).
The Tornados struck first when a free kick shot by Theo Givens was saved by the goalkeepers' fingertips, and another saved shot against Steven Dolan found Garfias for the score in the 17th. Four minutes later, Givens, Rodriguez Jr., & Garfias connected on the double-assisted goal for the 2-0 advantage.
Concordia upped the lead to 3-0 in the 24th when Christian Barillas fed Glaffey for a goal that ricocheted off the keeper's fingers. The Tornados pushed their advantage to 4-0 when Claffey found Rodriguez Jr. In the 59th.
LeTourneau notched their loan goal a minute later, but CTX would answer with two more goals by Leo Lopez (Antonio Rios assist) & Jonathan De La Torre (Timothy Barney assist) in the final 15 minutes.
Concordia Texas will remain at home to host East Texas Baptist University this Saturday, September 30th at 1 p.m.
