AUSTIN, Texas - Fresh off a three hiatus from action, the Concordia Texas men's basketball team outpaced the University of Southern Maine by a score of 90-79 in day one of the Concordia Holiday Classic. Senior guard Donovan Stafford led the way with team-highs of 27 points, 10 rebounds & three blocks inside the newly named Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse on Sunday.
The Tornados came out inspired with a steal and score by Evan Butts to give them a 15-5 lead at the 14:33 mark. With CTX's full court press controlling the pace, another surge late in the half would push Concordia's lead up to 46-29 entering the half.
Concordia's advantage would reach as much as 19 points, but the Prairie Wolves would respond with a rally to cut their deficit to 54-49 with just over 12 minutes remaining. CTX then answered with a pull up jumper by Corey Thompson that sparked a 16-2 run. The flurry would be enough to put Southern Maine away as the Tornados earned the double digit win.
