AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team split a doubleheader with Trinity University on Opening Day. The Tigers outlasted CTX 5-4 in nine innings in game, while Concordia engineered a five-run comeback for a 12-9 game two victory inside Roberts Family Field on Sunday.
GAME ONE: L, 5-4 (9 innings)
The Tigers loaded the bases with only one out, before the Tornados got out of the jam with no runs given up in the top of the first. Trinity then juiced the bases again, but this time they converted for three runs in the second inning. With the go ahead run at the plate and the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Concordia made it a a 3-2 game thanks to RBIs by Addison Lehew & Kylie Kirk to score Kylie Denaro & Emily Schmuck. 
The Tigers scored a run to up their lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth, but Concordia once again loaded the bases. Lehew recorded another RBI to score Denaro & Ellie Congalton scored Schmuck to knot the game up at 4-all. 
Trinity loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but the Tornados kept them at bay. Headed into extra innings, the Tigers claimed game one with a run in the ninth.

GAME TWO: W, 12-9
The Tornados struck first with saavy base running in the second inning as Megan Hooper stole second to help Kirk score on the throw for a 1-0 lead. Trinity responded with a three unearned runs to take the lead in the top of the third.
CTX cut into the deficit in the third when Coleman slapped a shot right at the short stop to score Mayson Post. They then tied the game at 3-apiece when Kirk sent a RBI single through the middle to score Denaro later in the inning. 
Trinity grasped control of game two in the top of the fourth when they tallied five runs for an 8-3 lead. Concordia wasted no time in their comeback effort as Hooper, Moses, Schmuck & Denaro all scored to make it an 8-7 game. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Hooper put the ball in play that helped three across the plate to give Concordia a 10-8 advantage heading into the fifth.
Adding insurance to the Tornados' lead, Hooper launched a two-RBI shot to left center to make it a 12-8 score going into the final frame. Trinity would connect on two hits and a run in the seventh, but Concordia would convert the outs to secure the game two victory.

Concordia Texas will head to Houston to take on St. Thomas in a doubleheader next Saturday, February 17th. First pitch is set for 1pm.
