AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell by a score of 77-65 to Hardin-Simmons University. Donovan Stafford led all scorers with 27 points inside the Concordia Fieldhouse on Thursday.
The Tornados came out hot from the field as Adolfo Martinez kicked out a pass to Corey Thompson where his corner three gave CTX a 21-11 advantage at the 8:38 mark. Their lead would reach as much as 11 points, before a Cowboys run made it a 27-26 game with just under three minutes left in the half. A 9-2 flurry to end the half for Concordia gave them a 36-28 advantage at the break.
Hardin-Simmons chipped away at the lead until they claimed their first lead of the second half at 52-51 with 11 minutes of play left. Both teams traded baskets, and a putback by Robert Hall tied it up at 60-apiece with 6:30 left in the game. The Tornados would fall cold from the field and free throw line as Hardin-Simmons finished the game on a 17-5 run to claim the victory.
Concordia Texas will now cap off the season this Saturday against McMurry for Senior day at 3pm. Luis Gonzalez & Dylen Scales will both be honored before the game.
