AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell in a tight, non-conference test by a score of 64-61 against Sul Ross State University. Senior Chelsea Cogborn posted a double-double inside the CTX Fieldhouse.
The Lobos tallied the first three of the game, but CTX responded with a 10-0 burst out the gate. Closing out the first quarter strong, Brooke White found Jordan Bravo for a buzzer beating three for a 17-9 lead.
Sul Ross cut the deficit down to one point, but a furious finish to the half by the Tornados gave them a 34-26 halftime advantage.
CTX upped their lead to as much as 13 points in the third, but the Lobos once again chipped away at the lead to make it a one point game. An extra pass by Daysha Tijerina to Bravo for three helped Concordia take a 46-42 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Lobos tied the game at 46-all, but Concordia responded with a fastbreak corner three from Tijerina. Back-to-back buckets gave Sul Ross their first lead since the first quarter, but a pair of free throws by Cogborn put the Tornados back ahead 51-50 with 6:30remaining in the game.
Later in the quarter, a late run gave the Lobos a 63-55 lead with just under two minutes left. A late rally by the Tornados would fall just shy of a comeback as the Lobos would hold on for the win.
Concordia Texas will now shift their focus to the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas next Thursday, February 8th at 5:30 pm.
