AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team tallied a pair of shutouts in a doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons University. Otto Franz tossed a complete game one hitter in game one, and a trio of pitcher combined for a two-hit, 10 strikeout no hitter in game two at Gardner-Boggs Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE: W, 1-0 (7 Innings)
Franz tossed a perfect game through the first 3.1 innings, and did not allow a base-hit until the final inning of the game.
Julian Swift put the Tornados on the board first with a RBI single to the shortstop to score Brandon Goynes in the third.Â
After that score, both teams would produce a pitcher's duel with stellar throws and web gems. Neither team would put another runner in scoring position as Franz & CTX would surge through for the 1-0 win.
BOX SCORE STANDOUTS
Otto Franz Complete Game, 5 Ks, 1 Hit, W
Julian Swift 1 Hit, 1 RBI
Brandon Goynes 1 Hit, 1 Run
GAME TWO: W, 6-0
Starting pitcher Rowdy Hadley came out on fire as he tossed a perfect game through 4.1 innings of action. Relievers Ryan Bailey & Mason Brandenberger kept up the momentum as they only allowed one more hit throughout the rest of the game.
The Tornados got three runners on base on three walks with two outs, before Zach Seigrist slapped a three-RBI double in the bottom of the second.Â
Looking for insurance, a leadoff triple by Efren Sanchez Jr. gave the Tornados a prime opportunity in the bottom of the sixth. Colby Christian then brought him home with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
CTX then added another run in the seventh with a Sanchez Jr. sac bunt to score Aaron Gomez. That would be the final run of the game as CTX would put in the finishing touches in the victory.Â
Concordia Texas will now travel to Richardson, Texas to take on UT Dallas for a series beginning this Thursday, March 28th. First pitch is set for noon.
