AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team fell in a pair of games in the conference opener against LeTourneau University. Mayson Post struck out a career-high six batters in game one, while Kylie Kirk launched her third homerun of the season in game two at Roberts Family Field.
GAME ONE: L, 2-0
The Tornados put a runner in scoring position in the first two frames, but were unable to capitalize for a 0-0 score.Â
After five scoreless innings in the pitcher's duel, the Yellowjackets scored two runs in the top of the sixth. This would be enough to give the Yellowjackets the series opening victory.
GAME 2: L, 8-4
Concordia got on the scoreboard first in game two with a pair of perfectly placed bunt-singles by Megan Hooper & Zaleigh Perez to score Emily Schmuck in the bottom of the second. Following some saavy base running by the Tornados, Hooper scored to make it 2-0. CTX then took a 3-0 lead in the second when Perez scored on a fly out to foul territory to right field.
The Yellowjackets reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the top half of the third. Looking to tie the game up later in the inning, LeTourneau doubled to left center but a textbook 7-6-2 throw out at home kept the score the same.Â
LeTourneau loaded the bases in the fourth, but Concordia shut them down to maintain the 3-2 lead. The away team once again loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, before a three-RBI double gave them a 5-3 advantage.Â
The Yellowjackets took control with another three runs in the sixth for an 8-3 lead. A solo homer to right center field by Kirk made it an 8-4 game going into the final inning. This would be the final run of the game as LeTourneau would hold on for the victory.
Concordia Texas will now compete in the series finale against LeTourneau tomorrow at noon.Â
