AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team defeated LeTourneau University by a score of 9-4 in the series finale. Kylie Kirk posted her second homerun of the series at Roberts Family Field. Kirk's two homeruns is the first time a Tornado homered twice in a series since Summer Harper against Howard Payne in 2018.
The Yellowjackets put two runners in scoring position in the top of the first, before Kirk recorded two straight strikeouts to keep the score at 0-0. Kirk gave the Tornados an 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the frame with a RBI-single through the right side to score Grace Coleman.Â
LeTourneau claimed a 2-1 lead in the top of the second with a homerun to centerfield. CTX answered with a three runs scored by Megan Hooper, Kylie Pavlicek, & Coleman for a 4-2 lead heading into the third.
The Yellowjackets knotted the game up at 4-all with a pair of runs in the third. Both team went scoreless in the fourth frame, before a RBI-single from Kylie Woods scored  Kirk for the go-ahead run in the fifth. CTX then took a 7-4 lead with a RBIs from Alexa Perez & Hooper that scored Victoria Garza & Isabella Vidal.
Extending the lead to 8-4 was Kirk when she hammered her homer to centerfield in the sixth. CTX put on the finishing touches when Emily Schmuck was able to round the bases on an error to cap off the inning. Giving the Yellowjackets no hope for a comeback, Concordia allowed no hitters on base in the seventh for the win.
Concordia Texas will now host 15th-ranked Texas Lutheran in a non-conference doubleheader next Tuesday, March 12th. First pitch is slated for 2pm.
