Megan Hooper Walks Off Against McMurry

Softball split a doubleheader with McMurry on Friday.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team split a pair of games against conference foe McMurry University. Senior Megan Hooper tallied the walk-off sacrifice fly in the game two victory at Roberts Family Field on Friday.

GAME ONE: L, 12-2 (5 Innings)

McMurry got off to a hot start with a 5-0 lead in the first frame. Concordia notched their first run of the game in the second when Kylie Pavlicek capitalized on Hooper attempting to steal second.

The War Hawks added three runs to their lead int eh top of the fourth, before Emma Chavez doubled to right field and scored Pavlicek for an 8-2 game going into the fifth. McMurry would score four more runs in the fifth & go on to claim a run-rule victory.

GAME TWO: W, 7-6 (8 Innings)

McMurry struck first with a run in the top of the second, but a pair of RBIs by Pavlicek (Zalexis Perez) & Molly Olivarez (Pavlicek) gave CTX their first lead of the game heading into the third. Concordia loaded the bases in the third when Addison Lehew fired a two-RBI single up the middle to send Kylie Denaro & Kylie Kirk home. Pavlicek then launched a sacrifice fly to centerfield and and scored Grace Coleman for a 5-1 lead.

The Warhawks tallied a pair of runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to knot the game up at 5-all, and then scored one run in the seventh to take their first lead of game two. In the bottom of the seventh, Coleman put the ball in play and it ricocheted off the second baseman to give Kirk time to race home and tie the game. 

After forcing a scoreless top half of the eighth by the War Hawks, Olivarez doubled to left center and then advanced to third as the potential winning run. Hooper then skied a sac fly to right field to give Olivarez enough time to race home and earn the walk off victory.
