AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team completed the regular season finale sweep against Howard Payne University. The Tornados honored their 11 seniors in a pregame ceremony at Gardner-Boggs Field. Sophomore leadoff Julian Swift tied his own school record with his 22nd consecutive game with a hit on Saturday.
In what was a pitcher's duel early in the game, Concordia got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth when Efren Sanchez Jr. popped up for a sacrifice fly to score Colby Christian. The Yellowjackets responded immediately with two runs in the top of the fifth for their first lead of the game.
The Tornados then knotted the game up at 2-all when Morrow doubled to centerfield and scored Seigrist. At the next at bat, Christian gave Concordia the lead when he scored Morrow with a RBI-double to left in the bottom of the fifth.
Concordia added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Swift singled to left center and rounded Seigrist to home for a 4-2 advantage. They then upped the advantage to 5-3 when Kalen Clark slapped a stand-up double to score Morrow in the seventh.
They then put on the finishing touches in the bottom of the eighth when a sacrifice fly by Swift scored Seigrist. The final runs of the evening were a two-RBI blooper to right center by Christian that scored Aaron Gomez & Morrow to make it an 8-2 final score.
