Softball Splits With UMHB

The Tornados secured a spot in the ASC Tournament next week.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team secured a spot in the ASC Tournament & split a doubleheader with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Kylie Kirk tallied an inside-the-park homerun and Christian Everett batted in Emily Schmuck for the go-ahead run in game two at Roberts Family Field on Friday.

GAME ONE: L, 10-6

The Crusaders went up 1-0 in the first, but a run by Addison Lehew tied the game up after two. UMHB then scored seven runs over the next three innings to take an 8-1 lead. 

Cutting into the deficit in the fifth, Kirk's homerun also scored Kylie Denaro. Molly Olivarez then smacked a two-RBI hit to left center to score Grace Coleman & Lehew. Later in the fifth, the Tornados made it an 8-6 game when Olivarez & Kylie Pavlicek successfully converted a double-steal at second base and home. UMHB would score two insurance runs to claim the game one victory.

GAME TWO: W, 3-2

UMHB scored one run in the top of the first, but another double steal by Concordia scored Kylie Denaro to knot the game up at 1-all after one. The Crusaders then claimed a 2-1 lead with a run scored in the second.

In the bottom of the fourth, Denaro singled down the left field line to score Schmuck and tie the game. The Crusaders loaded the bases in the top of the sixth with only one out, but a smart play at home by Pavlicek and a strike out by Kirk left UMHB empty handed.

With two outs and Schmuck in scoring position, Everett came up clutch with a RBI-single to right field in the bottom of the sixth. After recording two quick outs in the final frame, CTX recorded their final out when Pavlicek caught a line drive to prevent the batter getting on base.

Concordia Texas will now look to claim the series with UMHB tomorrow with a Senior Day ceremony prior to the game. First pitch is set for noon.
