Volleyball Sweeps MSOE for First Win of the Season

The Tornados split a pair of games in Day Two of the Benedictine Invitational

LISLE, Illinois - The Concordia Texas volleyball team completed day two of the Benedictine Invitational with a split of two matches against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) & Benedictine University. The Tornados swept MSOE & were bested in straight sets against Benedictine inside the Rice Center.

vs. MSOE, W 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22)

The Raiders led 5-4, before breaking away for an 18-11 lead in set one. A kill by Rayna Pack sparked a 6-0 run to bring CTX within one point. Later in the frame, back-to-back kills by Brooklynne Fitzgerald would give Concordia their first lead of the game at 22-21. The Tornados would ultimately score the last three points to claim the first set.

Concordia led 10-9 when they opened up their lead with a 5-0 run in the second frame. Keeping the Raiders at bay, the Tornados would go up two games to none with a 25-22 win.

CTX led 9-4, but MSOE showed life with a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead in set three. The Tornados clawed away at their deficit, & evened the score at 15-all. With the score knotted at 16-16, four straight points would prove to be the difference en route to another 25-22 win in the final game of the match.

vs. Benedictine College, L 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21)

All three games were close in the second match of the day for both teams. With the score tied 19-19 in the first game, the Eagles used a 5-2 run to escape with a 25-23 win. 

The Tornados led 20-18 in the second, but Benedictine scored the last seven points to go up two games to none. The score was once again knotted up late in game three at 17-all when CTX scored three straight points. The Eagles would then close out the match with eight of the last nine points.

Concordia Texas will now return home to Austin where they will host Whitman College (3:30pm) & UT Dallas (6pm) next Friday, September 6th.
