MARSHALL, Texas - In a match where the Concordia Texas men's soccer team trailed 1-0 at halftime, a second half surge powered the Tornados to a 4-3 victory over East Texas Baptist University.
Theo Givens posted two goals and one assist, while
Antonio Rios collected two assists at Cornish Field on Saturday.
For the second consecutive match, CTX were on the offensive prowl as they outshot the Tigers 20-10 (8-3 shots on goal). An early goal in the fifth minute put ETBU up 1-0. Concordia would have ample opportunities to tie the match in the first half, but the score would remain the same heading into halftime.
The equalizer would come in the 50th when Givens fed
Paul Claffey in the box and he found the opposite left corner of the net. Seven minutes later, a cross into the box would find the foot of the leaping Givens to give Concordia the lead.
The Tornados would push their advantage to 3-1 when a counterattacking Rios lobbed a full-field pass to a streaking Givens who beat the defender and keeper for the goal. The Tigers cut into their deficit in the 79th, but CTX would put the game away when
Leo Lopez passed the ball to
Bryan Rios who then connected in the top left corner with an amazing power shot.
After a four-game road trip, Concordia Texas will now return home to host Hardin-Simmons this Thursday, September 19th at 7pm.
