ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Concordia Texas men's soccer team was bested in a non-conference matchup with Hardin-Simmons University by a score of 2-1. Gustavo Hernandez scored his second goal of the season at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on Thursday.
The match was close throughout as CTX outshot Hardin-Simmons 16-13 (6-5 shots on goal). The Tornados also doubled HSU with six corner kicks to three. The Cowboys scored to goals in the first 26 minutes for a 2-0 lead entering the intermission.
Concordia turned it up a notch in the second half with nine of their 16 shot attempts coming in the second. CTX had a chance to cut their deficit in half with a penalty kick in the 67th, but the Cowboys saved a the PK to stay up 1-0.
Later in the 85th, Theo Givens connected with Gustavo Hernandez who then powered the ball into the back of the net. CTX would get the ball into the box a few more times in the waning moments, but Hardin-Simmons would hold on for the victory.
Concordia Texas will now shift their focus to Howard Payne for Senior Day where they will host them this Saturday, September 21st at 5pm. The Senior Day ceremony is set for 4:30pm.
