BELTON, Texas - The Concordia Texas tennis program kicked off the fall campaign with a bang at the Crusader Invitational. The Tornados claimed five first-place finishes in pool play during the weekend.
In singles action, sophomore Steven Scholz claimed the title in pool A as he defeated Oscar Roy (ranked 20th in the nation) by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 in the finals. Isabella Cepeda shined as she also reached the championship round in women's pool A play.
Newcomers Vincent Rosoldi (pool F) Ethan Garcia (pool I) also went undefeated to win their respective brackets. Overall, six Tornados made it to the singles Championship match as Hunter Green (pool G) & Jack Rectenwald (pool L) also made it to finals.
The women dominated in doubles action as the teams of Aanysia Hamilton / Rebekah McQueen (pool C) & Emily Pullen / Reagan Branum (pool D) both won four matches in three days. On the men's side, the tandems of Adrian Munguia / Scholz (pool A) & Aaron Griffin / Ethan Garcia (pool C) both excelled as they made it to the championship match in their brackets as well.
After a promising fall opener, the Tornados will now shift their focus to the ITA Regional. The women will compete from September 19-22, while the men will play from September 26-29.
