AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team was bested by a score of 3-0 against 20th-ranked Trinity University. Freshman outside hitter
Brooklynne Fitzgerald led the Tornados with nine kills inside the CTX Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Tigers led 22-16 late in the first set when back-to-back kills by
Mia Atkins and
Rayna Pack cut the deficit to four. Trinity would have set point, but a late surge by CTX made it 24-22. Trinity would survive the set to win 25-22.
Capped with an ace by
Selena Cooper, Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second frame. Midway through the set, Cooper sep up Pack for a kill to make it a 12-10 game. Trinity would rattle off 11 straight points en route to a 25-14 win in the second.
The Tigers jumped out to an early led in the third game, but two straight kills by
Camryn Parker & Fitzgerald made it an 8-7 game. The Tigers would respond with a 9-1 run to gain control in the third set. Down 23-12, Concordia tallied six straight points with a setup by
Gabrielle Eads and kill by
Faith Zoch. These would be the Tornados final points as Trinity would win set three by a score of 25-18.
Concordia Texas will now have a week to prepare before hosting Southwestern University next Saturday at 1pm.
