Volleyball Bested in Doubleheader

The Tornados fell in a pair of matches to TLU & UMHB, 3-1.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team fell in a pair of matchups against Texas Lutheran University & the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Concordia was downed by a score of 3-1 in both matchups at the Deb & Don Fieldhouse on Friday.

vs. TLU, L 3-1 (25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 25-22)

The Bulldogs led 21-18 late in set one, before rattling off four straight points to take control in a 25-19 win. In set two, TLU led 6-5 when they surged ahead to a 27-9 advantage. They would then claim a 2-0 series lead with a 25-14 win.

CTX found new life with an early 11-7 lead when a kill by Brooklynne Fitzgerald sparked a 4-0 burst. Later in the frame with CTX up 19-14, a spike from Haylee DIebel sparked another 4-0 mini-run as Concordia would go on to win the game 25-18.

With both teams trading runs in set four, back-to-back kills by Amaya Horton tied the game at 22-all. Texas Lutheran would respond with the final three points to earn a victory.

vs. UMHB, L 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-9)

UMHB led 15-12, before Concordia surged ahead for a 24-19 advantage in game one. The Crusaders would post three straight points, before Diebel smashed the final kill to put CTX up 1-0.

It was another back-and-forth affair in the second set as the score was tied 17-all when UMHB rattled off five straight tallies. This would give them the cushion to give them a 25-20 victory and tie the series.

Both teams once again traded points in the go-ahead set for a 15-15 tie. The Crusaders would then record 10 of the final 14 points to go up 2-1 in the match. They would then carry their momentum into the fourth set to claim the victroy.

Concordia Texas will next host McMurry next Friday, October 17th for Senior Day. First serve is scheduled for 6:30pm.
