Volleyball Splits Crossover Finale

The Tornados swept Dallas and fell to Austin on Saturday.

CONWAY, Arkansas - The Concordia Texas volleyball team split a pair of matches against the University of Dallas and Austin College in the SCAC Crossover Finale. The Tornados swept Dallas and fell in three close sets to Austin College inside Grove Gymnasium on Saturday.

vs. Dallas, W 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-23)

The Tornados controlled the match from the beginning, taking the first set 25-14 behind a balanced attack led by Malarie Mican and Brooklynne Fitzgerald. Concordia surged midway through the frame with a 7-1 run, capped by a kill from Amaya Horton to seal the set.

In the second set, Concordia opened with three straight kills and never looked back. Haylee Diebel and Kinlea Reeder added firepower at the net, while Dani Wysocki and Isabella Martinez delivered service aces to extend the lead. The Tornados closed the set 25-15 with a kill from Diebel.

Dallas showed resilience in the third, rallying from a 20-11 deficit to tie the set at 22-22. However, Concordia responded with clutch plays from Madeline Vaughn and Reeder, finishing the set 25-23 and securing the sweep.

Mican led all hitters with 10 kills and a .409 hitting percentage, while Concordia posted a .238 team hitting mark and 63 digs. The Tornados will wrap up the Crossover later tonight against Austin College at 7 p.m.

vs. Austin, L 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 26-24)

In a match where all three sets were decided by three points or less, Austin College led 13-10 in set one before a kill by Emma Rosier sparked a 9-2 burst for CTX. Later in the frame, Concordia led 22-21 prior to the Roos closing out the game with the final four points.

In a see-saw battle of a second set, the match was knotted at 22-all. After trading points, Concordia would have match point at 26-25 following an Fitzgerald ace. Austin College would respond by tallying three straight points to go up 2-0 in the series.

In another tight game where the score was 14-14, Concordia poured in four consecutive points. The Roos would tie the match later in the set as both teams were deadlocked at 24-all. Austin College would go on to win with the final two points of the match.

Concordia Texas will next head to Seguin, Texas to take on Texas Lutheran University this Saturday, November 1st. First serve is set for 1pm.
