SEGUIN, Texas - At day one of the SCAC Crossover hosted by Texas Lutheran, the Concordia Texas volleyball team dominated with wins over the University of the Ozarks & Centenary College. The Tornados earned a pair of sweeps inside Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday.
vs. Ozarks, W 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16)
The Ozarks led 11-10, before a kill by Brooklynne Fitzgerald started a 9-0 run for the Tornados. The Eagles closed the deficit to within 23-19, but an Ozarks bad set & Amaya Horton ace would put Concordia up 1-0.
The Eagles raced to a 5-1 lead in game two, and Concordia would answer to knot the game up at 8-all. Both teams trading points with CTX leading 19-18 & gaining separation with a 6-3 burst for the series win.
In the final set, Concordia led 18-15 midway through the series. They would then preserve the sweep with a 7-1 spurt to end the set.
vs. Centenary, W 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15)
Concordia led 7-5 early in set one, before a 5-0 run by the Ladies. Centenary led 12-10, before the Tornados reclaimed the lead for good with a 5-0 burst of their own. They would then maintain their advantage for a 25-18 win.
Midway through the second frame with a 15-12 lead, Concordia surged ahead with a 9-3 flurry as they would go on to win 25-17.
With momentum on their side, Concordia tallied nine of the first 10 points in third set. Their lead would reach double-digits and as much as 23-12, before a kill by Haylee Diebel closed out the dominant day with a 25-15 triumph.
Concordia Texas will next look to cap off the SCAC Crossover undefeated as they will take on LeTourneau tomorrow. First serve is scheduled for 2:30pm.
