ROUND ROCK, Texas- The Concordia Texas women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Texas Lutheran on Friday evening at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Despite a strong defensive effort and nine saves from Tornados goalkeepers Lemontraja Roberts and Avery Wright, an early goal proved decisive.
Texas Lutheran struck quickly in the third minute when Lilly Noblett found the back of the net off a pass from Klarissa Martinez. The Tornados responded with a pair of shots from Tatum Winn and Emma Payne in the opening 10 minutes, but both were turned away by Bulldogs keeper Alysa Marquez.
Roberts held firm in the first half, making five saves to keep CTX within reach. The Tornados made several substitutions to spark the attack, but were unable to generate consistent pressure. Avery Wright took over in goal for the second half and added six saves of her own, including key stops on shots from Noblett, Martinez, and Aliyah Fonseca.
CTX's best second-half came in the 82nd minute when Cecilia Escobar fired a shot toward the bottom center, but it was saved by Alexis Morrison. Escobar would get another look just three minutes later, but again Morrison was there to deny the equalizer.
Concordia finishes SCAC regular season play with a 5-3-2 conference record and will now play in the SCAC Tournament on November 6th. To stay updated on CTX women's soccer, follow @ctxathletics on social media and visit athletics.concordia.edu.
