MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team dropped a 73-65 battle to Linfield University in their ETBU Classic opener on Friday night inside Ornelas Gymnasium. Junior guard Taysie Trejo delivered a career night with 30 points and four steals, but the Tornados couldn't overcome a decisive third-quarter surge by the Wildcats.
Concordia opened strong, edging ahead 15-14 after the first quarter behind Trejo's early three-pointers and a Shanna Brown layup. The second frame saw both teams trade baskets, with Madison Martinez scoring inside and Trejo adding another triple, but Linfield closed the half on a small run to take a 29-25 lead into the break.
The third quarter proved pivotal. Linfield outscored Concordia 27-16 in the period, fueled by Amelia Solt's perimeter shooting and Tana Hoekema's presence in the paint. Despite Trejo's relentless scoring, the Wildcats built a double-digit advantage heading into the fourth.
The Tornados showed resilience late, pouring in 24 points in the final quarter. Trejo knocked down back-to-back threes, while Brown and Katelyn Tietjen added key buckets to cut the deficit to single digits. A post move by Samantha Ising pulled CTX within 68-63 with just over a minute remaining, but Linfield held firm at the free-throw line to secure the win.
Concordia Texas will wrap up the ETBU Classic on Saturday, November 22nd, when they face host East Texas Baptist University at 2pm.
