AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell in a competitive 67-55 contest against Whitman College, who is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com National Poll. Junior guard
Taysie Trejo poured in 23 points in the season opener inside the Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Whitman raced ahead to a 12-3 advantage through the first six minutes of the game. A Trejo three and
Jemima Yowa layup would stop the run as the Blues would carry a 20-12 lead into the second quarter.
Later in the second frame,
Madison Martinez & Trejo knocked down a pair of three as Concordia reduced their deficit to 31-28 with just under two minutes remaining in the half.Â
The Blues lead 36-31 at the break, before a strong third extended their lead to 13 points going into the fourth.
Looking for a late surge late in the game, a post feed to
Samantha Ising pulled the Tornados within seven points at 60-53 with just 2:58 left. This would be the closest that Concordia would get within as the Blues would hold on for a win.
Concordia Texas will next head to Marshall, Texas to compete in the ETBU Classic against Linfield University & the host East Texas Baptist University on. The Tornados will first take on Linfield on Friday, November 21st. Tip off is set for 7pm.
