Softball Dominates in Doubleheader Against Hanover

The Tornados stole 11 bases in game two.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas softball team dominated in a doubleheader against Hanover College. The Tornados won game one 6-2 &game two 10-1 at Roberts Family Field on Wednesday.

GAME ONE: W, 6-2

The Tornados struck first in the bottom of the first when a sacrifice fly by Grace Coleman scored Kylie Denaro. The Panthers would answer with answer in the third and take a 2-1 lead following a 2-RBI single.

Concordia responded emphatically in the fifth would excellent small-ball play that resulted in four runs crossing the plate for a 5-2 lead. They would then add an insurance run in the sixth when Kylie Palicek doubled off the left field wall to score Karlee Mathis.

GAME TWO: W, 10-1 (5 Innings)

The Tornados recorded 11 stolen bases in game two, the second most in program history. Sophomore Kyle Kirk also shined in the circle with a 1-hit, six-strikeout performance in four innings of action.

In the bottom of the first, a pair of bunts put runners on the corner for the Tornados. Both runners (Malarie Mican & Denaro) would then score following a wild pitch and sac fly by Mathis. They would then push the lead up to 3-0 when Addison Lehew slapped a RBI-single through the right side to score Kylie Kirk. 

Still with only one out, the second sac fly of the inning by Kylie Pavlicek scored Lehew to make it 4-0. Kayla Looper would also score in the frame following a passed ball for a 5-0 advantage.

Keeping up the momentum, Mican scored when Denaro powered a RBI-double to left center. Kirk then rounded Denaro home with a RBI-single to up the score to 8-0.

CTX claimed a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when A RBI-double into right center by Kirk scored Denaro. The 10th run would come later in the inning when skillful base running resulted in Kirk stealing home. The Panthers would score one run in the fifth but CTX would record the runaway-rule victory.
